This course has been designed to meet the needs of all who work in the Spirits industry: brand ambassadors, sales, marketing for wholesalers, or all who work front of house in the Service industry; be it in a hotel, restaurant, bar, night club or event catering. Market trends and current statistics for brands and beverage consumption are an integral part of the course.
The course combines the production methods, the categories of spirits and the choice of stills available. Swiss legislation on distilling and serving of alcoholic beverages are an integral part of the course.
A professional approach to tasting and assessing all the main categories of spirits and how to assess their quality.
We will introduce you to the principles of the service and mixology (cocktail category), according to each style of spirit and the choices available for service.
The legislation and market trends within each category of spirit is part of the product knowledge covered by the course.

To gain the Level 2 qualification, candidates will be required to:
Successfully complete
- Spirits knowledge – a multiple choice paper of 50 questions
N.B. Teaching, study materials and examination in the English language
Included in the course fee: – study materials, spirits samples, tuition and access to the study support site for the duration of the course
Knowledge required to access the course – None, but an advantage to have followed and successfully passed the Level 1 Introduction to Spirits and / or the Level 1 Introduction to distilling and aromatising of spirits course.

Guided learning hours: – It is recommended that the candidate allocates at least 28 hours of study time in order to complete the entire programme. The hours will normally be a combination of teaching and self study hours. It is recommended that teaching for the programme should not be less than 12 hours.
Learning outcomes – on completion of this course, the candidate will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the factors that influence the production of spirits and liqueurs and how these factors influence the characteristics of spirits and liqueurs
- demonstrate a basic understanding of the global and local market for spirits and liqueurs and also explore the importance of ‘branding’ in the market
- describe the characteristics of the most popular spirits and liqueurs internationally
- produce tasting notes using the a professional approach to tasting spirits according to category
- use knowledge to make recommendations for the selection, service and use of spirits and liqueurs
- demonstrate knowledge of legislation and health, social and safety issues relating to the production, consumption and service of spirits
